About Types of Security Systems
Security systems are available to protect practically everything these days. There are security systems to protect houses, businesses, cars, boats, motorcycles, computers and everything else you can think of. Even kids use security systems without realizing it as a bike lock is a simple security system.
Besides all of the things that can be protected with a security system there are sub categories within each system. Take a look at home security as an example. There are a ton of security firms that will provide your house with monitored security. Then under that there are more categories, burglar alarms, lighting systems, intrusion detection and more. It can be hard to decide just exactly what security system you need.
Then you can choose from a hard wired system or a wireless security system. IF I were building a new house I'd go with a wired security system with a battery backup just because you can save a bundle on home insurance and it adds value to the house when you want to sell it.
For apartments and pre existing homes I'd go with a wireless system as the installation costs are much cheaper and you can take it with you when you move. If you can read and follow directions there are simple DIY wireless systems you can install in your home. Much easier than trying to install a hardwired system and much cheaper.
Installation of wireless home security systems are fairly uncomplicated. Before installing the system you will want to read the directions, then plan where you will have the base receiver, and the placements of the cameras. After that it's simply install the system according to the directions.
Wireless systems run on battery power, not on electricity. This can be seen as advantageous because if your electricity is cut you are assured that your security system will continue to work. This is very important.
Boating security systems have joined the wireless revolution and there are now systems that anyone can install in less than 30 minutes. When an alarm is triggered, the systems will send a text message your cell phone or send you an email.
There is another security system everyone is familiar with and sees everyday. These are the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors found in almost all homes today. You many not think of these as security systems but they are and you should have these no matter what. They can save your life and the lives of your loved ones. They are so cheap it's a no brainer and they are easy to install.
Another type of security system is gated communities. Usually there is a guard at the gate but not always, sometimes you just have to swipe your card. Visitors have to call in via intercom before being buzzed in by the occupants of the gated community.
Video surveillance systems can monitor your whole house or can be as simple as a camera at your front door so you can see who is there before you ever go to answer the door. Business owners aren't the only ones, anymore, who can take advantage of video security systems.
Car alarm security systems are meant to alert the people in the immediate vicinity that someone is trying to gain access to your car. Often, the alarm will cause the would be thief to flee. However there have been so many car alarms going off that these are not a great prevention system anymore because everyone ignores them. Better would be GPS tracking of your car or a device that shuts the gas off if a correct code isn't entered.
Business security systems would tend to include more cameras and visual monitoring systems. In addition to fire protection and protection against intrusion when the business is closed, protection of inventory and prevention of theft such as shoplifting are business security concerns not normally found in the home.
Doing a lot of research can help you decide what types of security you need. The security needs of your neighbor may not be the same as yours or what he is concerned about protecting may be different than what you want to protect. There are a lot of different security systems out there so do your research, check with your friends to see what they recommend, check with the local law enforcement and see what they recommend.
You can also get a security audit of your home or business. They will tell you exactly what they think you need and recommend a system for you to install. However before installing their system check for others that do the same thing and that may be at a cheaper price.
Security systems are a necessity now days so make sure the system you choose will do the job you want it to do.
